Georgia On My Mind

Georgia was one of the models at  our  group shoot at Banana Studio back in January.  It was a cracking day but in all the rushing around we found that we only had literally 10 minutes at the end of the session to shoot.  In that short time I knew she was someone I would really like to work with again and the images we got in that time confirmed that and I promised I would make the time up in the near future.  So last week we finally got together for a shoot and I travelled up from Darlington to Banana Studio in Newcastle for something that would hopefully last a little longer and work through a few ideas that we had talked about in the build up to the day.  Georgia wanted some really natural images for her model portfolio and when I saw the new graffiti wall at Banana Studio I knew I wanted to incorporate that into the shoot.  The shot we got from that part of the session has quickly become one of my all time favourites.  We were going for a bit of a Marilyn Monroe look in the last shot (well at least I was!! lol).  Big thanks to Georgia for the shoot, lovely girl, very easy to work with, and I’m sure you will agree has a great look.   Good luck in Miss Newcastle Georgia, sure you will do great!!

Alex and Debbie

Recently had the pleasure of working with 2 models from Boho Model Agency that I had worked with before on a few occasions – Alex Pratt and Debbie Ingram.  We had the whole day (well I’m slowing down in my old age!! lol) and we decided to split the day between shooting some portraits, headshots and B&W images here in Darlington then making the short trip up the A1 to Newcastle and shoot something a little more expansive at Banana Studio.  Debbie was taking a break from her studies at Edinburgh Uni whilst Alex was fresh from a successful stint at London Fashion Week where she came second in the Top Model UK Grand Final – way to go Alex 🙂   As always the girls were absolute stars, fun, creative but also a joy to work with.  Something we had chatted about for a while was a collage of images of the 2 girls together styled around Cheryl Cole’s look in the video “Promise This” which presented a few challenges in post but the final result was worth all the pain!!

Kellyann Magill

Got together recently with Kellyann Magill to shoot some headshots for her portfolio.  Kellyann was the original face of Boho Models and her headshot is still used today as an integral part of their branding, so I felt a little under pressure to produce something of a similar standard.  Kellyann has a lovely look, great skin and is also an accomplished make up artist in her own right.  We wanted to shoot a few different looks, each with their own lighting and processing to give a very different feel, these ranged from some standard beauty shots through to a Twiggy inspired sixties B&W image.  The day went really well and was a really enjoyable experience, Kellyann was great to work with and I was really pleased with the outcome.

4 Go Mad in Newcastle

Well Sunday saw the latest get together of erstwhile photographers Marc Melling, Stu Glen, Grahame Jenkins and little old me.  Banana Studio in Newcastle was the venue and we were very lucky to have a strong line up of models, some of who travelled from as far afield as Sheffield to be with us on the day.  Patrycja Firmanty and Karolina Hejnar were also there and did a fantastic job with the girl’s make up throughout the shoot.  Following conversations with some of the models I had a reasonable idea of what I wanted to shoot on the day, though as always things didn’t go exactly to plan and I found myself running out of time towards the end (sorry Georgia we had such a short time to shoot, promise I will put that right).  There was a  great atmosphere  throughout the day, with the usual cameraderie and banter between the togs  and everyone just mucked in and got the most from the day.  Massive thanks to all the girls: Danielle, Georgia, Jordan, Lizzie and Misha who were all a pleasure to work with, to Karolina and Patrycja for their expertise, to Eric at Banana Studio and last but not least to Grahame, Stu and Marc for their support and good humour.  Watch this space for more images.  Fancy another next month?? lol

Group Shoot at Banana Studio

Casting for Banana Studio Shoot, January 30th, 2011

A big thank you to all the models who recently applied for our group shoot at the end of the month.  We had a fantastic response with over 40 models applying, the standard was really high and it made our task an enjoyable but difficult one.  We decided to go for 6 models who none of us had worked with before, so apologies to those who were looking to do another group shoot, and came up with a list which we think has a mixture of looks and styles.  The 6 models are :-

Jordan

Dani

Misha

Natalie

Liliana

Georgia

Thanks again to all who applied, I know I will be working with some of you in the very near future.  Watch this space for images from the day next month.

Goldigger

Recently, I was asked to take part in a shoot with Durham based MUA Ashleigh Reid by model Jenny Clewlow.  Ashleigh was in the middle of planning a series of images based around the 7 Deadly Sins.  The shoot was to take place at Penshaw Monument on what turned out to be an absolutely freezing day!!  The brief was trying to get an image of a WAG caught in the act of burying her ex!!  Ashleigh was great to work with, really well prepared and Jenny looked a bit too handy with that shovel for my liking!!  Great way to spend an afternoon, despite the cold.

Boho Calendar Shoot

I recently had the pleasure of shooting an image for the Boho Model Agency Calendar.  A total of 12 photographers and 12 models were there for the day in what turned out to be a very positive experience, there was a great sense of support and collaboration from all involved.  It was also good to meet up with people whose work I had seen on line and finally be able to put a face to the moniker. The theme for the whole calendar was white, I was teamed up with model Jenny Clewlow for the shoot which was great as we had already worked together and had a good rapport going.  The shot involved several different elements which would hopefully come together to make the final image, a dynamic pose, strong backlighting, smoke, wind and metres of flowing material!!  As you can imaging this wasn’t a one take deal and it took us a while to get the shot we wanted, but looking back I’m really happy with the result.  Big thank you to all at Banana, the models and togs involved who all contributed to what proved to be an excellent day.

Invaders From The North!!

Had a great day on Saturday shooting with model Jenny Clewlow at various locations around the Darlington area.  I first saw Jenny after she shot with some friends of mine Marc Melling and Stu Glen.  She is very much in demand as a model and combines a full time job with grid work, promotions and modelling, travelling long distances to do so.  This doesn’t seem to dampen her enthusiasm at all and when we got the chance to shoot eventually she arrived full of enthusiasm and raring to go having driven down from Inverness that morning.  We had exchanged several ideas about what we would like to shoot and I picked out a few places which i thought might provide a good backdrop.  As it turned out the light beat us and we didn’t get to use them all, always other shoots though I guess.  Jenny brought her boyfriend Stu with her, a lovely guy who was a real bonus to have around on the shoot, he needs to be careful he will be giving chaperones a good name!!  When we got back we did a couple of studio sets before tucking in to a well earned curry!! All in all it was a really fun day, here are some of the early edits, more will appear during the week.

Charlene

mg_7289webI first worked with Charlene back in August at a group shoot with other photographers Stu Glen, Marc Melling and Grahame Jenkins held at Banana Studio up in Newcastle’s Ouseburn.  She has a great look but is also a lovely girl with it and we grabbed some time on the day to talk about future collaboration, as it turned out we had to wait until this week to finally get together.  We were hoping to make a day of it and combine a location shoot with a further session back at Banana, unfortunately the weather was against us so we just headed for the studio.  During the three hours we had we shot a range of styles from lifestyle, fashion through to lingerie with Charlene making the transition between each with ease.
The time went really quickly, but looking back through the images I was more than happy with the shots we got.  Thanks to Charlene for a really enjoyable and productive afternoon and to the revamped  Banana Studio for their good humour and professionalism throughout the day.

These are a few of the early edits, please check back as more are added.

Kirstie – Fashion and Beauty Shoot

Kirstie Fashion and Portrait shoot

After the Marlena shoot we had to come back for more!!  Once again I had the services of Julie Ann Pattinson as MUA and stylist and this time Kirstie as the model.  I first met Kirstie through a friend of hers who I had worked with before, she had not really done any modelling before, and had no real desire to pursue it as a career, but wanted to give it a go and see how it turned out.  As you can see she has a great look and proved to be an absolute natural.  Fortunately for me she really enjoyed the shoot and we ended up shooting several more times over the following months.  We worked through a series of ideas, one of which included her being buried in a mound of autumnal leaves which I had collected a couple of days before the shoot and dried out on the conservatory floor, unfortunately the odd spider remained which did cause one or two slightly hairy moments!!  It was a long day and we shot for around seven hours with only a short break for one of my legendary sandwiches 🙂  Had a great feeling of satisfaction following the shoot though and a real sense of achievement.  Big thank you to both Kirstie and Julie for their patience, good humour and expertise which just made the whole thing so much fun.
